What is CSV?

CSV, or Comma-Separated Values, is a data format in which each line is record. Each record has one or more fields, most often separated by commas.

Although Google Sheets has a native function to import CSV, it takes a lot of steps to import a file. Also using the native import, you can’t import a CSV API that changes its value – however, this can easily be achieved with KPIBees. 

To easily import CSV install the Google Sheets Add-on KPIBees.

STEP 1

Go to the KPIBees Gsuite Marketplace listing and install the Google Sheets Add-on.

STEP 2

Grant the access KPIBees – we are GDPR compliant!

STEP 3

Open a Google Sheet and go to Add-ons menu and click on Launch.

Click on the CSV connector.

STEP 5

Name your CSV query.

STEP 6

Add a Name to your query and the URL of your CSV. In our example, we are importing a COVID API in CSV format. 

STEP 7 (optional)

If your CSV url is not accessible via url – for example, under a login wall – you might need to add Request Header parameters. In order to test whether your url is accessible, simply open it in an incognito window.

STEP 8

Once you run the query, the CSV content will brought to the spreadsheet starting with your selected spreadsheet cell.

As mentioned, the native CSV importer function of Google Sheets only allows you to import files. However, using KPIBees you can automatically any CSV API to Google Sheets. It’s possible to set refresh triggers so that your CSV queries update automatically.
Whenever a refresh happens, KPIBees can also send an email or slack notifications with the refreshed data in pdf format.
